The fight is on again – How do you think it happened ?

Hey everyone, how is your day going?

What a morning! the weekend had been so amazing. I have just returned from a long weekend in beautiful France with some of the most amazing friends, here is the story.

Reunion is on – Message received

The trip began by receiving a message “James boy, we are meeting at 1500hrs on Thursday next to camp Utah, are you coming?”. My eyes lit up and my mood sky rocketed, this is our yearly reunion that consists of former members of the Parachute Regiment, close friends and who I class as family which I had missed the previous year.

The best route is not always the fastest

The drive to Normandy took me across the German-French border. I had decided to travel cross-country instead of passing through Paris, a great call due to the beautiful landscape that I witnessed as I drove through the small villages and open farm land around Reims. Reims is located just above Paris and my journey ended near the west coast of France. Those looking at a quick get away should check out the small villages around France, very pretty.

The guys arrived

The guys arrived and the mood was fabulous. We swapped stories, drank beer, cooked together and spent the whole weekend visiting points of interests (museums, battle grounds) with designated drivers and had a great time catching up.

The journey home

Heading home is always a pleasure because I have the most supportive partner waiting for me who is caring. That is very important when fighting of these conditions, they help the process and keep you ahead of the game.

Beating depression and anxiety

Upon waking on the Monday morning, the darkness is trying to pop its head up and the anxiety is there. Luckily I know what I have to do now and I feel positive about beating the weaker part of me.

First things that I do to start crushing it.

  1. Open windows
  2. Grab a large glass of water
  3. Eat breakfast
  4. Take a shower
  5. Dress for the occasion
  6. Slow my day down (I have learnt to keep Mondays as clear as possible, this helps)
  7. Put the radio on in the background and smile.

Smiling, closing my eyes and turning my palms upwards and inwards towards my body for a few seconds and deep breathing through my nose helps create a positive feeling between thought processing – Try it πŸ™‚

Why has the anxiety and depression come back

I think that the events of the reunion had set a few emotions off, the realization that time is passing so fast and that as they all head off with the goodbyes in the direction of England, I am heading off in the direction of Germany. I love my life in Germany, it is a truly amazing country. The people are very friendly and it has a holiday feel almost everyday. Surrounded by mind blowing scenery, awesome people and a powerful economic system but it is far from the people that I had grown up with. That said, I would not swapped the life that I have for anything in the UK because I feel very at home here.

That being said, I have to get my butt moving today and focus on organizing my business for the week πŸ™‚
